Electric bills and taxes are getting INSANE in Pakistan. How do people survive the summer heat?Kind of shocking but my family's electric bill with taxes in Lahore, Pakistan is more than my own in the US even though they use A/C sparingly despite the summer heat. Add to this the rising cost of living, inflation and the crazy amount of direct taxes. I am wondering how does average Pakistani survives these days? How do people save?
Growing up in Pakistan, it was never this bad. PPP-PMLN combo, and their army handlers, have destroyed the country for the next generations. It is so sad to see how the country has been ruined by these monsters.
I said the electric bill with the taxes are insane.
If you are comparing per kWh rates then by all means have a look at Pakistan's GDP per capita which hovers at around $1,700 whereas the US sits at around $85K. That's 50 times the difference in gross income. Is the electric rate 50 times lower in Pakistan? Regionally, Pakistan has fallen behind India ($2,800) and Bangladesh ($2,600).
I'm in Huston and my last bill was barely $130 for a 1,600 sq. ft home. The bill my family got in Lahore was around 42,000 PKR ($210 USD) and it had all sort of rubbish taxes. I can't fathom how a person earning 35K to 50K PKR per month survives in Lahore's sweltering heat. Or what people earning 20K or 30K per month go through in summer (over 50% of Pakistan's population earn less than $2 dollars a day). This is all before we talk about food, fuel and housing. This is brutal stuff given how much people are earning in Pakistan. I don't know how people are able to save for a rainy day.
